This would be cool worked on towels or the hem of a skirt. I make the rungs pretty short or the thread would catch on just about everything it came in contact with.
Ta da! You’ve reached the namesake for this site. Anytime you run across some little dots in a pattern this is the stitch to use. However, it does make a knot on top of the fabric and sometimes you may want something more subtle. I use a teeny tiny cross stitch to accomplish this.
Ya know that pretty eyelet lace trim that is made by machine? Well, this is where you make those pretty eyelets but by hand. One eyelet at a time. Might take awhile.
