Kitten in a Basket Applique Quilt Block

What can be cuter than a kitten? Why, a kitten in a basket, of course! I don’t know what size block to use for the base fabric but the basket is 7″ wide. The diagram shows the applique to be placed diagonally on the square to accommodate the height of the handle. Otherwise you’d have a bunch of blank space or just make the blocks rectangular!

Update: Here’s a stray kitten designed for applique and suitable for popping into a quilt. You probably have the perfect fabric already stashed!
