These Christmas stockings are stuffed full of toys and other goodies that defy wrapping paper and a bow. In the old days (hey, this is a vintage site) parents left an orange in the stocking which was a real treat in winter. It signified the promise of Spring that everyone was waiting anxiously for considering the lack of centralized heating and the reliance on wood or coal to keep the house warm.
